Meet The Creator

I'm Louise, a full time working Mum to Emilia and married to my Husband, Stephen who is currently serving in the Military and we also share our home with our 9 year old Cavapoo, Oscar.

I actually started my Home Account back in 2016 when we bought our first home. I found a love of interiors, styling and creating content. In 2023, when my daughter was 18 months old, we moved into our first Army House after my husband was posted. Since then I've tried to create Renter Friendly ways to make this house feel like home. It's been very progressive and I've loved sharing more Children's Interiors. My daughter was diagnosed with a rare neurological muscle weakness condition called Myasthenia Gravis  just before her 2nd birthday and since then I've shared our journey in the hopes raising awareness and connecting with other medical Mums.

What’s something about parenting you wish someone had told you sooner?

Every phase is just that. A phase. It doesn't last long so when you're in the thick of it, know change is coming. But of course that didn't apply for us regarding Emilia's sleep.. she did not sleep well for the first 3 years of her life haha, but it did get better, eventually!

What moments do you hope your children will remember from this stage of their childhood?

I hope she remembers how we laugh together, the moments of joy during her request for a 'family hug' or when we praise her. She's learning so much at the moment and changing so quickly but I mostly hope she remembers how much she is loved. I heard a saying a while ago that 'Their childhood is also my Motherhood', and now I think about that all the time. These are the best days of my life.

Is there a PlayFaire toy that’s been a real staple in your home?

We absolutely adore our wooden Rosewood Doll house. It's such a beautiful house and Emilia plays with it almost daily. It really is heirloom quality and has the sweetest details, my favourite being the blossom tree painted on the side. Open ended play is a firm favourite in our house. It helps build imagination and watching Emilia use hers to play out little scenes fills my heart with joy.

Are there any routines or rituals that bring a sense of calm to your family days?

We have a playmat in our lounge which has been affectionately named our "dance floor", we love a little boogie often and Emilia's slowly building up a fab repertoire of pop songs she loves. Stargazing and anything Taylor Swift is always a good choice!

What would you say to a parent who’s feeling overwhelmed right now?

You are not alone. I've been there, I think we all have at times. Reach out to other Mums (even me), find your village.. we are all in this together. And if you already have support, don't be afraid to lean on them. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness, us Mama's need to recharge sometimes.

Where do you get your interior inspiration from?

Growing up, I loved The Secret Garden movie, the idea of fairies and anything floral. I try to encapsulate that in everything I do. Pretty interiors brings me joy and I hope sharing my content will help others feel an element of that too.

How do you balance expectations (your own or others) with real life?

I'm an anxious Mum who didn’t have a good childhood myself and that has manifested into wanting everything to be perfect and comparing my life with others. This mindset is difficult to shift but I work hard and know already my daughter has had a better childhood in her short years than I ever did. She's loving, happy and confident . She's 4 now and has already faced challenges she shouldn't have to deal with but since her diagnosis, she has taken it all in her stride. She is resilient and strong, and I take a lot of comfort in that. I'm proud of her. And us. It's important to know that everyone's journey is different and as long as you're doing your best, no one can ask for more.

What does a realistic, lived-in day look like for your family right now?

Life is busy, we both work full time and having a husband in the Army and who races motorcycles at British SuperBikes means it's full on. We can have cosy days at home around the house crafting together, baking or playing board games (snakes & ladders is a firm favourite at the moment) or dollhouses, and other weekends we are travelling halfway around the country to support racing. Emilia is not a typical girl, she loves girlie things like fairies/dressing up but she also LOVES Spidey and Friends, rollercoasters and bike racing. She's a little speed demon at heart.

We hope Louise’s story inspires you to find beauty in the everyday, from open-ended play and kitchen dance parties to the quiet strength found in family life’s more challenging seasons.

Thank you, @home.by.the.stones, for sharing your heart so openly and for being such a valued part of the PlayFaire community.
